What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: Not being free.
Where would you like to live?: Somewhere quiet, where I can smell the mountain air and hear birds singing
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: Freedom.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: The follies of youth.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Any heroes that are true to themselves and to each other.
Who are your favorite characters in history?: Elizabeth I.
Who are your favorite heroines in real life?: Falling Rain. She has befriended me and taught me much about living in this wild place.
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: Elizabeth Bennett. I would like to be as steadfast in my ideals as she.
Your favorite painter?: I fear I do not enough to comment. I'm afraid I shall reveal my ignorance here.
Your favorite musician?: Handel.
The quality you most admire in a man?: Honesty.
The quality you most admire in a woman?: Boldness combined with a good heart.
Your favorite virtue?: Temperance, though they are all good and desirable.
Your favorite occupation?: Reading, or, lately, walking outside
Who would you have liked to be?: I still hope very much to be her.
Your most marked characteristic?: My boisterous but poor singing voice.
What do you most value in your friends?: An open heart, and acceptance of my many faults.
What is your principle defect?: I fear I am not as timid or meek as I ought to be. I have a wayward and altogether inappropriate desire for adventure.
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?: To live without really living.
What would you like to be?: Nothing more or less than I can be.
What is your favorite color?: The blue of the sky here.
What is your favorite flower?: The Columbine.
What is your favorite bird?: The Canary. I have lately had cause to be thankful to their kind.
Who are your favorite prose writers?: Artigus Stacks. His fictitious account of life in the Wild West inspired me to travel.
Who are your favorite poets?: I cannot say that I have much of a liking for poetry. Chaucer, if I had to choose.
Who are your heroes in real life?: The women of the camp, who work tirelessly every day to make this wild land into a home.
Who are your favorite heroines of history?: Catherine the Great. She adapted to a world she had no experience with and rose to the highest position of power.
What are your favorite names?: I do enjoy the name Henry.
What is it you most dislike?: Feeling caged.
What historical figures do you most despise?: There are many around me who will yet live to be historical figures, and who I already dispise.
What event in military history do you most admire?: The battle of Yorktown.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?: Courage and determination.
How would you like to die?: Peacefully but outside.
What is your present state of mind?: Calm.
What is your motto?: Have courage, dear heart.
