What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: The initial suffering of shock in a sudden, eternal change in life, however long it lasts
Where would you like to live?: Nowhere, but any temporary resting place should have access to Oriental things, rocks/mountains, a place of privacy, and a chance to soon live somewhere else
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: Earthly happiness is always having some kind of tension to learn to work with and to learn from, so the happiest is art. That or laughter and food.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: Loudmouthness
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: The wise ones or the romantic ones
Who are your favorite characters in history?: Wise non-thinkers (eg Lao Tse) and people who overcame adversity
Who are your favorite heroines in real life?: My mother and sisters, Issa Lish - any who stand out in how they do what they do
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: Satoko Ayakura (the Sea of Fertility) - what Proust said
Your favorite painter?: Utamaro
Your favorite musician?: Because sounds exist beyond ownership, my favourite musician is everyone for making them and John Cage for his personality
The quality you most admire in a man?: An ability to teach and see good or potential in everything
The quality you most admire in a woman?: An eternal form of beauty, most of all quirkiness
Your favorite virtue?: P'u
Your favorite occupation?: Laughing, observing, recording (ideally in combination)
Who would you have liked to be?: Myself, but with superpowers so I can go to the past
Your most marked characteristic?: To others, quietness and stillness; to myself, inner overexcitableness
What do you most value in your friends?: An inability to understand them but still laugh with them
What is your principle defect?: Trying too hard or overthinking and messing up; creating problems with short-sightedness
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?: Not knowing how to end torturous pain, and having to learn from it for the first time
