What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: To live without purpose or reason, and to die without leaving an imprint of yourself.
Where would you like to live?: A place with enough people that one can disappear easily.
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: To be fulfilled, both in intellectual pursuits and in physical needs.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: The want to document life, rather than to live.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Realistic, intelligent heroes, who have flaws and are not perfect.
Who are your favorite characters in history?: Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Leonardo da Vinci.
Who are your favorite heroines in real life?: Nellie Bly.
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: The women who's lives do not completely revolve around men.
Your favorite painter?: Van Gogh or Rembrandt.
Your favorite musician?: Mozart or Shostakovich.
The quality you most admire in a man?: Intelligence and thoughtfulness.
The quality you most admire in a woman?: The same qualities I admire in men.
Your favorite virtue?: Creativity and enthusiasm.
Your favorite occupation?: Creating.
Who would you have liked to be?: I prize my thoughts and ideas most - characteristics I would lose were I somebody else.
Your most marked characteristic?: A need to learn everything about my interests, and enthusiasm about my pursuits.
What do you most value in your friends?: Honesty and a thoughtfulness about life.
What is your principle defect?: Tactlessness and callousness, particularly to those more sensitive than myself.
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?: To die before living.
What would you like to be?: More knowledgeable than I am at present.

Who are your heroes in real life?: Modest intellectuals.
Who are your favorite heroines of history?: I'm not sure.
What are your favorite names?: My favourite names are associated with people I like. The name 'Bruce' is despicable, though.
What is it you most dislike?: My answer is the same as Proust's here.
What historical figures do you most despise?: I'm sure there are many despicable historical figures who I have never heard of.
What event in military history do you most admire?: Revolution as a whole fascinates me.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?: The ability to correctly read others.
How would you like to die?: Swiftly, without knowledge of it.
What is your present state of mind?: Amused by Proust's response to this question.
What is your motto?: I don't have one; if I made up one for the occasion it would sound contrived, and I'd promptly forget it.
