What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: To be seriously ill without work or money.
Where would you like to live?: New York City - at least once before I die.
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: To love and be loved by those around me, to feel healthy, to be connected to God.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: Allowing myself to be distracted by anything interesting.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Jayber Crow. Those who think and feel deeply.
Who are your favorite characters in history?: I'm not sure, there are so many interesting characters.
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: Weetzie Bat, Anne of Green Gables, Margaret
Your favorite painter?: Mark Rothko
Your favorite musician?: Faure, Bach
The quality you most admire in a man?: Humor, intelligence
The quality you most admire in a woman?: humor, intelligence, openness, understanding
Your favorite virtue?: the desire to be genuine in all things.
Your favorite occupation?: Being with my animals, making art with friends, taking long drives with Mike.
Who would you have liked to be?: Museum exhibition designer, forensic scientist, Presbyterian minister.
Your most marked characteristic?: Maybe my inner conflict about the need for others and the need to be alone - often. It manifests itself in many different ways.
What do you most value in your friends?: Good, genuine listening.
What is your principle defect?: I am sometimes flighty.
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?: Never to have met my friend Debra.
What would you like to be?: Part of a family.
What is your favorite color?: Blue, but not to wear. Just to look at.
What is your favorite flower?: I love them all, but snapdragons and sweet peas rise to the top.
What is your favorite bird?: Again, I love them all, but the personality of the Stellar's Jay and his neon blue feathers are something special.
Who are your favorite prose writers?: James Joyce
Who are your favorite poets?: ee cummings, auden, roethke, billy collins, anne sexton, yehuda amichai - so many.
Who are your heroes in real life?: My friends.
Who are your favorite heroines of history?: Not sure.
What are your favorite names?: Anne, Stephanie."Vi" as in Viola always sounded really glamorous to me.
What is it you most dislike?: mayonnaise.
What historical figures do you most despise?: Hitler.
What event in military history do you most admire?: I'm not military gung-ho, but I've never forgotten the 'victory' parade in DC after the first gulf war. Incredible.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?: will power and self confidence.
How would you like to die?: In my sleep, in the arms of someone who loves me.
What is your present state of mind?: Hungry.
What is your motto?: "Do it for the duck."
