- What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
- Being without Derek.
- Where would you like to live?
- In a house boat off the coast of Cali.
- What is your idea of earthly happiness?
- It would have been getting married to Derek, living with him by the water, and raising a family. Now that he is dead, I don't know.
- To what faults do you feel most indulgent?
- Wanting to know why Derek died; who was responsible. Everyone tells me not to think about it so that I can start to heal, but no. I need to know. I won't stop asking questions until I know why he disappeared.
- Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
- Prince Eric.
- Who are your favorite characters in history?
- Melodia, the real life inspiration for the Little Mermaid. She didn't get what she wanted in the end but I admire her so much for trying, even though the rest of the Mers were scared.
- Who are your favorite heroines in real life?
- My mom. I wish I could have known her. Also Bathesda, Mer of Sea Cows.
- Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?
- Ariel, because she is a Mer like I am and she ended up being with her human despite everything. I wish that were possible for me.
- Your favorite painter?
- Me. And Claude Monet.
- Your favorite musician?
- Avril Lavigne.
- The quality you most admire in a man?
- Being emotionally open and also willing to support me.
- The quality you most admire in a woman?
- Being fun and friendly, and not bitchy.
- Your favorite virtue?
- Honesty.
- Your favorite occupation?
- Surfing, talking to Daddy, working in the tattoo parlor.
- Who would you have liked to be?
- Derek's wife.
- Your most marked characteristic?
- Physically, it's my tattoos and my curly orange hair. Emotionally, it's my desire to be free. I hate the constraints of the human world now that I've lived with the Mers.
- What do you most value in your friends?
- Being fun-loving and nice, and not judgemental. Basically being like a Mer-Maid, not a human woman.
- What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?
- I've already experienced it: losing Derek.
- What would you like to be?
- The person who will bring whoever was responsible for Derek's death to justice.
- What is your favorite color?
- Sunset colors. And purple and teal.
- What is your favorite flower?
- Bird of Paradise.
- What is your favorite bird?
- Anything but seagulls. Hate them.
- Who are your favorite prose writers?
- Hans Christian Andersen.
- Who are your favorite poets?
- Petrarch.
- Who are your heroes in real life?
- My dad.
- Who are your favorite heroines of history?
- Helen of Troy.
- What are your favorite names?
- EvaLynn. I always thought it was so pretty. When I thought about Derek and I having kids, I always figured that the first girl would be EvaLynn Rhea, with the middle name beign after my mom.
- What is it you most dislike?
- When humans tell me to get a "real job" instead of just being a part time tattoo artist, or when Mers tell me to be less "dark" and a little more "bubbly." For both, it's when they say to start "letting go" of Derek in order to "heal the wound."
- What historical figures do you most despise?
- People who have hunted species to extinction, and the Sea Witch who started our curse.
- What event in military history do you most admire?
- The Mers' truce to never again speak to the Sirens. Good riddance.
- What natural gift would you most like to possess?
- The ability to sing.
- How would you like to die?
- In the sea, with knowledge: knowing why Derek died. Knowing that my Dad is happy and proud of me. Knowing that my little brother is well established in life.
- What is your present state of mind?
- 70% happy, 30% depressed. I can't stop thinking about Derek, especially now that I've had to answer all these questions about me and picture myself without him.
- What is your motto?
- "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." ~ André Gide
