- What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
- To have everything and everyone you've ever loved taken from you, as I have. I know misery.
- Where would you like to live?
- I'm right where I want to be -- out in the wooded country, free to come and go as I please.

- Oh, I don't know. Hot supper every now and then.
- To what faults do you feel most indulgent?
- I've got to rely on others to get by, but sometimes you have to do that.

- I say the Jean Valjeans.

- When I was a boy I loved Archie Clement. Loved him.

- I can't say I know any. Do you? No, I take that back. We don't speak, but my daughter is good. She's a good person and a good mother to her children.

- Why any woman who can stick around and put up with old, raggedy men like me. I think they might only be in fiction.

- I like to paint sometimes.

- I like to collect things. Anything that looks useful or interesting, I keep it.

- I would have liked to be a better father

- I'm old.

- My friends have all gone but I should like to meet them again.

- I don't have patience for rude people. You see them everywhere nowadays.

- To not see my daughter or grandchildren before I die, but then maybe it's better that way.

- God. I'd do things a lot different.

- I prefer wild mushrooms. I can tell you all the mushrooms in the woods where I live.

- Waterfowl. That's good eating.

- Faulkner, but I don't read much these days on account of my eye sight.

- Aw, I'm not into that poetry stuff.

- Everyday I walk into town to stand on the corner there near the gas station. And everyday a few kind people will spare me a buck or two. They're heroes in my book.

- I can't really tell ya off the top of my head.

- I like my name-- Gary. G-A-R-Y.

- Disrespect. Can't stand it.

- That Lyndon Johnson fella.

- I don't admire any of it.

- I'd like to think I can't die. They haven't killed me yet.

- I'm just plain tired.
